Four days before the summit between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, the exact location in Alaska remains unknown. Where will the event take place: a city, a hotel, or a chalet in the taiga?
Alyeska Resort: Possible Trump and Putin Summit Venue
Local publication The Alaska Landmine, citing an unnamed source, reported that the meeting “may take place at the Alyeska Resort hotel in Girdwood,” based on the fact that rooms at the hotel cannot be booked for dates from August 12 to 16.
This resort is located in the heart of wild Alaska, approximately 50 km from Anchorage, amidst the beautiful Chugach Mountains. On the hotel’s website, guests are promised exquisite luxury, comfort, rich flavors of local cuisine, and unforgettable Alaskan experiences that exceed their wildest dreams.
Relatively close to Alyeska Resort are mountains with mystical and telling names: Thor (117 km) and Valhalla (104 km).
Before this, The Alaska Landmine reported that the meeting place for Putin and Trump would be “The Driftwood Lodge hotel in Juneau,” located 1,000 kilometers from Girdwood.
NEWSROOM IN notes that Alaska is the only place for a meeting with Trump where Putin can arrive without fear of his plane being shot down or forced to land for detention under an International Criminal Court warrant
☛ For a meeting in the Vatican or Switzerland, Putin’s flight path would cross over European Union countries, most of which are NATO members and have committed to executing the International Criminal Court’s warrant for the Russian leader’s arrest.
☛ A summit in Turkey, the UAE, or Qatar would also involve risks. Due to worsening relations with Azerbaijan, Putin would have to take a long detour away from the Caspian Sea, which would increase travel time and create additional security threats. Thus, Alaska, being American territory, became the safest option for Putin, especially under Trump’s personal guarantees.
