Joe Biden’s Primary Objective in Talks with Xi Jinping — NewsRoomIn

US President Joe Biden discussed the primary objective of the upcoming talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, scheduled for November 15 on the sidelines of the APEC summit in San Francisco.

Biden emphasized that the aim of the talks is to “return to normal relations,” enabling both countries to “exchange letters and have direct communication via phone during crises, ensuring continuous military communication.”

He clarified, however, that he does not support a stance involving investment in China in return for revealing U.S. trade secrets.

While not explicitly stated by Joe Biden, it is likely that during the talks, topics such as the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, Israel and Hamas, and the issue of Taiwan will be touched upon.

A few days ago, Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser to the American president, also addressed the need to restore military ties in a CNN commentary. Sullivan stressed that this is in the national security interests of the United States, aiming to prevent “mistakes, miscalculations, or misunderstandings.”

NEWSROOM IN notes that China effectively broke off military contacts with the U.S. in August 2022 after then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan. Beijing considered this an unacceptable move as it considers the island its territory. Tensions between the countries increased further after the U.S. shot down a Chinese reconnaissance balloon flying over U.S. territory in February of this year.
