Barclays Pays Out Compensation After Major Outage – Some Customers Get £100

Barclays

Barclays has begun reimbursing customers affected by its widespread technical failure in late January, with some receiving up to £100 as compensation for the disruption.

The multi-day outage left users unable to:
➤  Access their accounts
➤  Send or receive payments
➤  Meet critical deadlines (including online self-assessment tax filings)

The timing exacerbated frustrations, as many relied on the bank’s services ahead of the January 31 tax deadline.

Amounts vary based on individual impact, ranging from £50 to £100. Payments appear with the reference “Barclays UK Refu”. Affected customers will receive a letter explaining their compensation.

While Barclays hasn’t detailed its criteria, UK financial regulations encourage banks to compensate customers for prolonged service failures. The bank likely aims to mitigate reputational damage and potential regulatory scrutiny.
