Tom Cruise Oscar: Tom Cruise, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, has finally received a golden statuette from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. At 63 years old, he was awarded an honorary Oscar for his outstanding contributions to cinema. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the award, Cruise’s first in his career, on social media.
Tom Cruise Oscar: A Long-Awaited Award
Although Tom Cruise is a recipient of three Golden Globe awards, he had previously been nominated for an Oscar four times in main categories but never won. He received nominations for his roles in the films: “Born on the Fourth of July,” “Jerry Maguire,” “Magnolia,” and the recent blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick.” The honorary award officially fills a gap in his collection and recognizes his influence on the industry.
The Power of Cinema: Honorary Oscar Winner Cruise Speaks
At the award ceremony, the actor delivered an emotional speech, explaining why cinema became his life’s work: “Regardless of where we come from, in this cinema we laugh together, feel together, hope together, and that is the power of this art form. And that is why it is important, that is why it is important to me. Therefore, making films — it’s not what I do, it’s who I am.”
Cruise also revealed that his love for cinema originated in early childhood: films awakened in him a thirst for adventure, knowledge, and a desire to understand humanity.
Other Laureates
Honorary statuettes at the ceremony were also presented to actress and choreographer Debbi Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas.
Furthermore, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes was presented to legendary singer Dolly Parton.
