These measures aim to increase pressure on President Putin&#8217;s regime and demonstrate continued support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Home Office has broadened its sanctions regime to include banning entry to the UK for &#8220;elites&#8221; linked to the Russian state. This includes individuals who provide &#8220;significant support&#8221; to the Kremlin, those whose &#8220;significant status or wealth&#8221; is derived from the Russian state, and those with access to the highest levels of the regime. The government emphasized that these individuals can pose a &#8220;real and present danger&#8221; to British values, publicly denouncing them while privately enjoying the benefits of the UK. They can also act as &#8220;tools&#8221; for the Russian state, enabling Putin&#8217;s aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prime Minister <strong>Keir Starmer<\/strong>, speaking remotely to a conference in Kyiv, stressed the need to maintain and escalate economic pressure on Putin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Starmer<\/strong> also indicated he would be discussing further steps with G7 leaders, advocating for increased risk-taking, including adjustments to the oil price cap, sanctioning Russian oil giants, and targeting banks facilitating sanctions evasion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the third anniversary of Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, the UK government has announced a new round of sanctions targeting Russian oligarchs with ties to the Kremlin.
