Citing two insider sources, the publication reported that Tehran is allegedly considering strikes on American bases and facilities in Europe if Washington escalates the conflict further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FT&#8217;s sources claim this refers to the <strong>Bezmer Air Base in Bulgaria<\/strong>, which is used for refueling US military aircraft, and the British <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroomin.eu\/nr\/ataka-dronov-na-kipr-evrosoyuz\/\">airbase in Cyprus<\/a><\/strong>, used by the United States as part of operations against Iran. Options to damage undersea cables in the Strait of Hormuz are also reportedly being considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u261b <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroomin.eu\/nr\/category\/newsroom-in\/\">NEWSROOM IN<\/a> notes<\/strong> that roughly seven key undersea cables pass through the Strait of Hormuz, including the intercontinental AAE-1 and SEA-ME-WE 5 systems, as well as regional links FALCON and GBI. This backbone network directly connects Southern and Western Europe (France, Greece, Italy) with Asia and the Gulf states, providing connectivity to infrastructure in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These lines are critical for Europe, carrying SWIFT transactions, oil and gas trading operations, and corporate traffic. Damaging cables in the narrow strait amid instability in the Red Sea would overload alternative routes and slow internet speeds between Europe and Asia, while repair work in a conflict zone could take six months or longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background\">A Controlled Leak from Iran<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroomin.eu\/nr\/category\/newsroom-in\/\">NEWSROOM IN<\/a><\/strong> cannot verify the reliability of the FT report, the publication appears to be a deliberate and controlled leak from Iran designed to exert information pressure on the United States and its European allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, Tehran is sending a direct message to Donald Trump&#8217;s administration in response to potential strikes on its critical infrastructure: &#8220;Do not provoke me, because I can escalate further.&#8221; Second, naming specific bases for potential attacks is aimed at intimidating European allies of the US to push Washington against further escalation of the Iranian conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet this aggressive rhetoric reflects not only threats, but also panic within Iranian leadership\u2014specifically the IRGC\u2014which prefers conducting diplomatic dialogue from a position of strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent developments indicate that Iran is losing control over the Strait of Hormuz. (Donald Trump recently even referred to the waterway as <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroomin.eu\/nr\/tramp-ormuzskiy-proliv-nash\/\">US territory<\/a>). Due to the American naval blockade, international vessels have begun shifting en masse to an alternative route through Omani waters under US Navy protection.
