Photon Matrix Lab has developed an AI-powered personal mosquito laser air defense system designed to eliminate flying pests. The device, priced at $630 on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform, has already attracted buyers from 50 countries looking to replace traditional rolled-up newspapers, sticky traps, and chemical coils. Looking like an ordinary webcam, the device uses artificial intelligence to continuously scan the room and aim a real laser at blood-sucking pests.
Terminator-style speed and strict criteria
According to the technical specifications, the built-in artificial intelligence requires only three milliseconds to distinguish between a speck of dust and a potential target. Once locked on, the laser can eliminate up to 30 insects per second.
However, the smart optics have specific limitations. To trigger the laser, the mosquito or gnat must not exceed 2 millimeters in size and must travel no faster than 1 meter per second. If a larger, fast-moving insect attacks, the $630 device will likely ignore it, granting it free passage. The operational range is also limited to 3 meters, meaning the target must be close.
Mobility and safety guarantees for cats
The developers designed the system for both indoor and outdoor use. The device can be powered by a standard power bank, making it portable enough for picnics or backyard gatherings to clear the air around a grill or campfire.
The creators assure that the device is entirely safe. The laser is calibrated to avoid harming humans, dogs, or birds. However, users must rely on the neural network to never misidentify other fast-moving objects, such as the tip of a cat’s tail, as a target.
Mosquito laser mass production launch
Production is scheduled to begin in August 2026. In the initial phase, the company plans to assemble 800 lasers per month, giving insects a little more time to learn how to fly faster than one meter per second.
